The River Kennet
The Eastridge Estate owns fishing on 3 miles of the River Kennet, known as the Littlecote Fishery. Located upstream of Hungerford, between the villages of Chilton Foliat and Ramsbury, this is the finest quality chalkstream fishing in a pristine rural environment. We are very proud of our wild brown trout population here at Eastridge. Year on year river enhancement work is carried out to help improve habitat and vital spawning grounds for native brown trout. In 2014, Eastridge was awarded the Wild Trout Trust Conservation Award in recognition of our habitat improvement work.
At Eastridge we are blessed with having the water meadows stretching away each side of the river channel. The site of special scientific interest is rich in wetland habitat; the water meadows are home to rare butterflies, invertebrates and are a place where you can still hear and see cuckoos, and families of native roe deer. As part of the management plan in the river valley, we periodically flood the water meadows to encourage migrant and native wetland birds such as snipe, green sandpiper, woodcock and an array of duck species.
It is often said that “there is more to fishing than catching fish” and this has never been more true than at Eastridge.
